The reasons Nigerian education system is in shamble today are not hidden. No prophet is actually needed to tell us what is wrong and what to do to correct it. No one seems to care about the falling standard of education in Nigeria. It must be pointed out that all the stakeholders are in one way or the other connected with this plight.
The government which is the pivot of the other stakeholders has failed woefully in its duty. This they have unfortunately achieved by paying deaf ear to the serious cry by the sector for help. It si not amazing but however unfortunate that the major share of the blame for the plight of this key sector is traceable to the government. This is because most of the politicians have their children in overseas' school. I see this as a willful attempt to subject the governed to the same position of being everlasting servants to them and their children.
The government has in the area of finance also contributed to this problem. They starve the sector of fund meant for its growth and development. This has even degenerated to the abysmal level of making students and pupils learn under tress as classrooms have become death traps.
It is crucial to note that every efforts put in place by government to improve the well being of the economy without serious attention given to the education sector is nothing but effort in futility. The economy of any country cannot grow in the absence of science and technology. How can Science and Technology be improved without a formidable educational system?
